Material

The Sixto Luminaire explores the relationship between solid wood and light through a composition of refined geometry and continuous illumination. Defined by its uninterrupted vertical optical elements, the fixture presents light as an integral architectural material—softly diffused, evenly distributed, and framed by the warmth and permanence of natural hardwood. The result is a quiet yet distinctive presence that complements contemporary interiors without competing for attention.

DESIGN

Integral dimming control is absolutely necessary for premium portable lighting. The Sixto dimmer knob is made of wood from the same tree to match the body.

A medium base E26 socket allows for particular bulb selection as well as lifetime serviceability. This Luminaire includes a dimmable LED bulb (90+CRI) and is rated for LED bulbs up to 25W.

Regarding certification, the Sixto Luminaire is designed & tested in-house to UL 153 Standard with UL-listed components, and has not received UL certification at this time.

CONSTRUCTION

Each Sixto Luminaire is handcrafted in Michigan by Strake Studio from carefully selected hardwoods, allowing the natural grain and character of the wood to remain central to the design. The continuous vertical optics establish a consistent rhythm around the fixture, creating a seamless column of warm ambient light that reveals the texture and depth of the surrounding space. Subtle variations in grain, color, and figure make every luminaire unique, reflecting the individuality of the material from which it is crafted.

PRODUCTION

Every Sixto Luminaire is made at Strake Studio in Detroit with traditional woodworking methods. Custome jigs, fixtures, & patterns were built to confidently produce the Sixto Luminaire with repeatable tolerance & quality. The wooden body & dimmer knob are lathe-turned.

For secure authenticity, each Luminaire is marked with a Unique Identification Number inside the body. Production is limited.

Various domestic & exotic wood species will be used in production, based on availability from my trusted timber suppliers. Each wood species will yield not only a different wood color & grain pattern, but also a diverse luminance, as light reflection varies with wood surface characteristics.

For matching sets of Luminaires, it is essential to coordinate the timber source for a similar cut from the same tree for a harmonized appearance.
