Dequindre Luminaire

The Dequindre Luminaire is a harmonization of fine woodworking, optical engineering, & intentional design, created to raise the standard of the finest Luminaires in American lighting.

DESIGN

For both function & aesthetics, eight pairs of optical windows are evenly distributed around the body. Behind the optical surfaces are inclines cut to reflect light at a vertical gradient from the center, while also displaying the organic avenues of the wood grain. Light travels from the source to the inclines by reflecting from a hidden white-painted surface, which increases reflectivity while reducing color shift. Direct view of the light source is minimized for preventing glare. 

Integral dimming control is absolutely necessary for premium portable lighting. The Dequindre dimmer knob is made of wood from the same tree to match the body.

A medium base E26 socket allows for particular bulb selection as well as lifetime serviceability. This Luminaire includes a dimmable ~16W LED bulb (90+CRI, ~1600lm) and is marked for LED bulbs up to 25W.

Regarding certification, the Dequindre Luminaire is designed & tested in-house to UL 153 Standard with UL-listed components, and has not received UL certification at this time.

CONSTRUCTION

Constructed of solid hardwood, each 16"x7" luminaire body is formed from a single board, precisely milled into 41 individual pieces, and meticulously recomposed. This process preserves a continuous wood grain pattern that flows seamlessly within the window pairs and around the entire form, creating a visual cohesion for the woodcraft critics.

PRODUCTION

Every Dequindre Luminaire is made at Strake Studio in Detroit with traditional woodworking methods. Custome jigs, fixtures, & patterns were built to confidently produce the Dequindre Luminaire with repeatable tolerance & quality. The wooden body & dimmer knob are lathe-turned. 

For secure authenticity, each Luminaire is marked with a Unique Identification Number inside the body. Production is limited.

Various domestic & exotic wood species will be used in production, based on availability from my trusted timber suppliers. Each wood species will yield not only a different wood color & grain pattern, but also a diverse luminance, as light reflection varies with wood surface characteristics. 

For matching sets of Luminaires, it is essential to coordinate the timber source for a similar cut from the same tree for a harmonized appearance.
